The 10 Canine Good Citizen Skills are practical in many situations. They represent a foundational level of training and socialization.

  3. Socialization checklist documentCompleting this document is not a requirement, but it can be a useful way to keep track of your dog's socialization history. Work with your instructor to give your dog adequate socialization to a variety of stimuli before testing for competency with CGC skills. Follow your instructor's guidance so that socialization is done safely and appropriately.

  8. Crate Training Crate training is not a CGC requirement, however, it is a recommended training practice. It can help your dog work through separation anxiety affecting achievement of competency with CGC Skill #10 (Supervised Separation).
