MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING

Motivational Interviewing  (MI) is a client-centered approach to communication. Objectives of MI are to help the client: a) identify behaviors that the client wishes to change in themselves and/or in the dog in order to achieve their goals;  b) work through ambivalence about change; c) increase adherence to a behavioral plan that the client and trainer commit to as a team.

Motivational interviewing is directive yet nonconfrontational . The process may last more than one session. The links below provide a guide to the process.
